- 1 June 2018 Michael Banton, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Senior Academic in the University of Bristol for many years and internationally renowned scholar, has passed away at the age of 91. Gregor McLennan, Professor of Sociology, offers a remembrance.
- 2 May 2018 Philip Ison Cawley, a cleaner at the University’s Langford site, has passed away at the age of 64. Gemma Whitwell, Senior Facilities Manager at Langford, offers a remembrance.
- 10 May 2018 Belinda Margaret Catherine Burke passed away in February. This remembrance contains contributions from her daughter Marie and from Simon Osborne, Technical Manager in the School of Chemistry.
- 7 March 2018 Dr. Natalya Gogolitsyna, Russian language teacher in the School of Modern Languages, passed away on 17 January at the age of 69. Derek Offord, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Russian, offers a remembrance
- 17 February 2014 Dr Yon (‘John’) Mayhew, who taught in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for some 40 years, died in late 2013. Professor Robert Adams offers a tribute to an engineer who co-authored a highly influential textbook on engineering thermodynamics.
- 14 February 2014 Generations of Bristol Geography staff and students will learn with sadness of the death in January of Tony Philpott at the age of 75. Emeritus Professor Peter Haggett offers a tribute.
- 13 March 2025 Peter Haggett, Professor of Urban and Regional Geography, passed away on 9 February at the age of 92. His colleagues and former students in the School of Geographical Sciences pay tribute to one of the discipline’s most distinguished scholars and a former Acting Vice-Chancellor of this University.
- 19 February 2025 Dr Gaositwe Keagakwa Tibe Chiepe, a notable politician and educator who was the first Motswana woman to attain a Master’s degree from the University of Bristol, has died. We offer a tribute to an outstanding diplomat and a champion of education.
- 6 March 2025 James Foulds, former Chair of University Council, passed away in February at the age of 88. We offer this tribute to a devoted and stalwart supporter, advisor and friend of the University.
- 13 January 2025 Dr John Moger Woolley, former Chair of University Council, passed away in December. We offer this tribute to a trusted colleague, friend and Bristol alumnus who led the University Council (now the Board of Trustees) for nine years.
