Obituaries
- 17 February 2023 Calvin Fearon, a cleaner in Site Services, Campus Division, passed away in December. His colleagues offer a remembrance.
- 3 February 2023 Dr Colin Gill, Reader in Physics at Bristol until his retirement in 1988, passed away in January at the age of 90. His colleagues Professor Michael Springford and Dr Brian Pollard offer an appreciation.
- 3 February 2023 David Ewins, Professor of Mechanical Engineering who retired in 2006, has passed away aged 80. His colleagues in the School of Civil, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering offer a tribute to a world-leading researcher in structural dynamics who was an inspiration to a generation of students.
- 1 February 2023 Carmen Alfonso, a Counsellor at the Student Counselling Service, unexpectedly passed away in December 2022. Her colleague, Alison Golden-Wright, offers her tribute to a kind, caring and thoughtful person who will be greatly missed by all of her colleagues in the service.
- 26 January 2023 Annette Krause, Language Teacher in the Department of German, died in December 2022 after a short illness. Her colleague Ruth Winter offers a remembrance.
- 11 January 2023 Dr Chris Adams, Lecturer in the School of Chemistry, passed away in September 2022. His colleagues offer a tribute to a dedicated and visionary champion for undergraduate teaching.
- 30 November 2023 Emeritus Professor Mike Jones died in September. His colleagues Professor Mark Clatworthy and Professor Stuart Cooper offer this remembrance to a pathfinder in many areas of accounting research who served as Professor of Accounting from 2009 to 2020 and as Head of Department of Accounting and Finance from 2009 to 2013.
- 21 July 2023 (William) Martin Gibson, a member of the University’s then Physics Department from 1949-53 as a Research Associate and 1960-85 as Senior Lecturer and Reader, died in February aged 96 at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. His colleague, Vincent Smith, offers a remembrance.
- 5 May 2023 Ivan Laver, former Workshop Manager in Mechanical Engineering, passed away in late April. His friends Peter McKeighan and Troy Swankie offer a remembrance.
- 5 January 2023 Professor Heidy Mader passed away on 22 December 2022. Her colleague and friend, Emeritus Professor Steve Sparks FRS, reflects on her life and scientific achievements.
