  • 15 December 2017 Research led by a University of Bristol quantum physicist has been highlighted as one of the top breakthroughs of 2017 by Physics World magazine.
  • 23 November 2022 A new randomised controlled clinical trial, led by the University of Bristol, will investigate whether rapid microbiological 'point-of-care' tests for respiratory infections could reduce antibiotic prescribing in primary care, thanks to funding of £1.6 million by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The tests, which are carried out in GP surgeries rather than sent to a laboratory, detect the presence of viruses and some bacteria, with results available on the same day.
  • 13 December 2022 The University of Bristol’s Smart Internet Lab and partners have been granted nearly £12 million from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to develop and industrialise technologies and solutions for future 6G mobile networks.
  • 22 November 2022 A total of six researchers from the University of Bristol have been awarded European Research Council (ERC) Grants totalling around 1.5 million Euros each. This places the University joint second in the UK in terms of the number of Grants awarded from the 2022 call.
  • 30 December 2017 Bernard Silverman, Emeritus Henry Overton Wills Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bristol and lately Chief Scientific Adviser to the Home Office, has been knighted in the New Year Honours List 2018 for public service and services to Science.
  • 13 September 2024 University of Bristol has been crowned ‘AI University of The Year’ at the National AI Awards solidifying the University’s reputation as a leader in artificial intelligence research and education.
  • 7 February 2017 Researchers from the University of Bristol are part of a major pan European €28.9 million initiative that aims to improve the prevention and management of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), which is the leading cause of kidney failure in the world.
  • 31 December 2022 Nicola Dandridge, Professor of Practice in Higher Education Policy at the University of Bristol, has been awarded a Damehood for services to higher education in the King’s New Year Honours in recognition of achievements in her previous role as Chief Executive of the Office for Students (OfS).
  • 14 December 2006 Dr Julian Partridge in the School of Biological Sciences is the lead UK participant in a series of international expeditions to investigate the little-explored deep waters off the coast of Australia.
  • 18 January 2017 An open-source 3D-printed fingertip that can ‘feel’ in a similar way to the human sense of touch has won Harvard University's international Soft Robotics competition for its contribution to soft robotics research.
